Joshua C Denny, MD MS Lab Director

Josh Denny, MD, is an associate professor in the Departments of Biomedical Informatics and Medicine. He completed an internal medicine residency as a Tinsley Harrison Scholar at Vanderbilt. His interests in medical informatics began while in medical school with the development of a concept-based curriculum database to improve medical education. Other interests include natural language processing, clinical phenomics to support genome-phenome correlation, pharmacogenomics, just-in-time information delivery, and terminology development. Dr. Denny serves on several local committees and remains active in teaching medical students and clinical roles.

Robert Carroll Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Robert Carroll is a research fellow working with Dr. Josh Denny in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University. His work focuses on the secondary use of EHR data. Areas of particular interest include phenotype identification using machine learning methods and leveraging genetic data to improve the understanding of disease. He updates and manages the R PheWAS package (available on github). He earned his PhD in Biomedical Informatics from Vanderbilt University in 2014.

Adi Bejan Postdoc

My research focuses on leveraging machine-processable content from EMR systems for meaningful use. I obtained my medicine degree from PUMC, and started pursuing PhD degree working on chart fragmentation issues on high-throughput clinical phenotyping under the guidance of Dr. Christopher Chute. I graduated from U of Minneosta in 2011 and joined the PheWAS team working with Dr. Joshua Denny.

Jessica Delaney, MD Clinical Fellow

Dr. Delaney is a board-certified cardiologist studying genomics and pharmacogenomics derived from medical records.

Andrea H. Ramirez, MD Clinical Fellow

Lisa Bastarache, MS Research Programmer

Lisa is the primarily responsible for new NLP and PheWAS code development.  She has training in computer science, computational linguistics, and mathematics.
